Spolsky strikes again! This time he draws interesting analogies between the demise of Lotus 1-2-3 in the 90's and the (imminent?) failure of hand-rolled Ajax applications. I don't agree with everything he says but it's a must-read.

Jose Rodreguez has created a really nice use for my canvas function plotter experiment. Together with a "script that calculates the general term of a series using interpolation by finite differences" it creates a function plot for any sequence of numbers you put in. Impressive stuff.

Backbase have revamped their website. Although the new style has a more 'corporate' feel, I have to say I liked Sharif's previous efforts a little better. They've lost the old illustrations and web2.0-feel and gotten a little more serious. It also looks like they've stopped using the Backbase engine to power the website.

I've been a big, big fan of Uniform Server, an extremely handy download, unzip and run no-install Apache, PHP, MySQL distribution for Windows. Even though the package is completely stable in my experience, it's always nice to hear an update is coming, especially since the author has recently been shot!

After the whole Lidell vs. Silva debacle I hardly dare to believe this even bigger piece of MMA-news: Mirko Filipovic is to join the UFC. I look forward to seeing him shake up the heavyweight division over there but it pains me to think there might never be a rematch with Fedor.
